Handyman Services — North Shore

The list of small jobs, cleared properly in one visit — by a carpenter who prices the visit upfront, not a mystery bloke with one screwdriver and an invoice pad.

Excellent handyman - I have no hesitation in recommending for a wide range of jobs. Apart from his trade skills, he is also very good at finding effective solutions for difficult jobs.

He is punctual and concentrates on the job, not playing on his phone. Peter leaves the area clean and tidy. He is reliable. Happy to recommend.

Small jobs, taken seriously

Most trades won't come out for the small stuff, which is why every Lower North Shore home has a list: the door that's stuck since Easter, the shelf still in its box, the flat-pack wardrobe nobody wants to start, the gate that needs lifting to latch, the drawer front hanging by one screw. I built a proper service around exactly that list — send it through with photos, get a straight price for the visit upfront, and have the whole thing knocked over in one tidy visit.

A carpenter's hands on the small jobs

The person easing your door is a carpenter who hangs doors for a living — so the fix is the trade fix, not the temporary one. Doors get planed and re-struck properly, shelves go into studs or the right anchors, repairs use the right timber and the right screws for salt air. A handyman visit gets the same hands as my carpentry projects; the only thing smaller is the job.

Honest about the licence line

A good handyman knows exactly where he stops: electrical and plumbing are licensed trades, and "he had a go at the wiring" is nobody's favourite building report line. I do everything up to that line properly, and past it I'll name the right trade rather than improvise — which is precisely why property managers and strata buildings keep me on speed dial forrecurring maintenance.

How the visit runs

Text or send the list — photos help pricing enormously — and I'll confirm the price and book a window I'll actually hit. On the day: jobs triaged so the fiddly ones get fresh hands, materials from the van or a quick supplier run, everything tested in front of you, and the sawdust swept before the van door shuts. Most lists fit a half day; most clients text a new list a season later. That's the business model, and it only works if the first visit was excellent.

Quicker than reading? Call, or send me a photo of the job and I'll tell you what it needs.

Common questions

How do you price handyman work?

Send the list with photos and I'll price the visit before you book — one straight figure for the lot, agreed upfront, no meter ticking behind you. Photos matter: they let me arrive with the right materials and clear the whole list in one visit.

What jobs do you take?

The list on the fridge: sticking doors and windows, shelves and pictures hung straight, flat-pack and furniture assembly, fence palings and gate latches, squeaky boards, sealing and gap-filling, small gyprock and paint repairs, gutter clearing, door hardware. If it takes a competent carpenter and a van of tools, send it through — and if the fence problem is bigger than a few palings, start with my fence repairs guide.

What jobs won't you take?

Licensed work — electrical and plumbing beyond the trivial (a tap washer, yes; anything with wiring or pipework, no). I'll say so straight and point you to the right licence rather than have a go. It's also why insurers and strata like my invoices.

Is there a minimum, and how do I get best value?

I quote the visit, not each tiny task — there's a minimum visit, and I'll tell you what it is when you send the list. Best value is bundling: five small jobs in one booking costs a fraction of five separate callouts, and it's a better day for everyone.

Who actually turns up?

me, or my own small crew — the same people who build my decks and kitchens, fully insured, on the tools locally since 2013. Half my renovation clients met me through a small job list first. I know exactly what a small job is worth doing well.
