Cammeray packs a lot of good housing into a small grid: federation semis and freestanding cottages, brick and bay windows, small courtyards that have to earn their keep, and a main-road village that keeps the suburb walking. It sits under North Sydney Council — different rules from my Willoughby-side suburbs, and I work both.

Semis bring their own craft: party walls, narrow side passages, courtyards measured in single metres. Work here is about precision and tidiness — materials in through the front door, dust managed, the neighbour's side of the wall respected.

What I do in Cammeray

My Cammeray work leans indoors and streetside: kitchens in semis where every centimetre is negotiated, built-in joinery that turns alcoves and under-stair voids into storage, and picket front fences — the suburb's signature — built and painted properly.

Courtyards get the outdoor treatment at small scale: compact decks, pergolas for shade over a table, screening for privacy from the neighbours three metres away. And the small-jobs list, which in century-old semis is never quite finished.

Cammeray questions, answered

We share a wall with the neighbours — how do you manage that?

Carefully and communicatively. I let adjoining neighbours know before noisy days, keep work hours reasonable, and handle fence matters under the Dividing Fences Act with itemised quotes both households can read. Semis run on goodwill; I protect yours.

Is parking and access a problem for you in Cammeray?

It's a fact of life here — permit zones and narrow streets. I plan deliveries around it and carry in what can't be parked close. It's priced honestly rather than appearing as a surprise variation.

Which council rules apply in Cammeray?

North Sydney Council. Exempt-development rules still cover many decks, pergolas and fences, but front fences and anything visible from the street have tighter limits in conservation streets — I confirm before quoting.
